Self-Care in Times of Stress

ree

These are unprecedented times and this has been one heck of a year. If you have been feeling emotional, drained, stressed out- you are not alone. If you want to support others, if you want to make an impact – in your family, friends, work place (or in the world) you need to take the time to care for yourself, to recharge so you can show up get it done. Here are 9 self-care practices to support your body during times of stress:

1) Limit your intake of news & social media: set boundaries, for example no news or social media for the first & last 2 hours of your day.

2) Hydrate & nourish your body: drink lots of fresh water throughout the day and eat regular well balanced meals with complex carbs, protein and healthy fats.

3) Release tension & pent up energy: with movement that feels good for you.

4) Take a warm bath: add in Epsom salts or essential oils like lavender & eucalyptus

5) Rest: set a bedtime and stick to it, stress levels are high, lack of sleep increases stress hormones and decreases our mental capacity and ability to cope.

6) Journal: Get it all out, free write all your thoughts and feelings without judgement.

7) Connect: Social support is key for health, especially during times like this. Reach out to friends, family & community members.

8) Relax: Practice meditation, deep breathing & stretching

9) Get outside: Spending as little as five minutes outside can reduce stress levels- it's my favourite place to be!

What is your faviourite form of self-care?
